Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Demosthenes’ for Egypt 22 .7.1915.

Disembarked at Suez with the 28th Bn. 14.8.1915. Compton marched in to the 7th Bn. ‘C’ Company as Lieut. (Hon. Cptn) EAF 26.3.1916. He was apparently not accepted for service in Gallipoli on account of his health. Compton was hospitalised with pleurisy at Heliopolis and Helouan. He transferred to the 5th Tng Bn. at Tel-el-Kebir 20.5.1916 and then embarked with the BEF from Alexandia per HMAT ‘Traconia’ 5.6.1916. He disembarked at Plymouth, England 16.6.1916. Compton was admitted to th 3rd London General Hospital at Wandsworth 16.6.1916- 4.9.1916. Compton undertook a course of instruction in Revolver Training at Codford with the 8th Training Bn. 16.10.1916- 23.10.1916. He marched into Rollestone as Cptn. with the 6th Training Bn. then proceeded to Hurdcott 10.6.1917. Compton developed bronchitis and was seen by the Director of Medical Services (DMS). He was diagnosed as Permanently Unfit (DPU) for permanent service, overage but with no incapacity. He was seen as fit for Home Service 3.9.1917. Compton marched into Weymouth and was listed for early return to Australia 8.10.1917

Notes Compton was admitted to the No.8 General Hospital at Fremantle following disembarkation.He took up farming land at Denmark under the Soldier Settlement Scheme, later worked with Cyclone Fencing and then as a surveyor’s assistant. He died in 1.5.1930. Compton participated in noactive service in WW1. He resided at 1 Helena St. Guildford pre WW1 and his schildren grew up in that home.
