Military History
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Chilka’ A51 for Egypt 18.6.1915.

Roll Unit 7th Reinforcement, 16th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
Bradshaw disembarked with the 16th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement in Egypt. After a short period of intensive training, he embarked at Alexandria with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force for Gallipoli 2.8.1915. His unit was used in the attack at the southern end of ANZAC and Lone Pine. Bradshaw fell sick at ANZAC and was transferred to Hospital Ship ‘Gascor’ with enteritis at 1.9.1915. He was taken to the General Hospital at Heliopolis 1.9.1915. He rejoined unit at ANZAC 18.10.1915. He was transferred to Mudros with a Septic arm 19.12.1915 around the time of the Army evacuation from the Peninsula. He returned to base for duty 23.1.1916 and rejoined his unit at Tel-el-Kebir 11.3.1916 (Reported ill in West Australian Newspaper 4.2.1916) (West Australian Newspaper reported returned to duty 12.5.1916). Bradshaw joined British Expeditionary Force and embarked for Marseilles 1.6.1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal in the Field 11.9.1916. The 11th Battalion served at Pozieres and in the trenches of the Somme at Ypres in 1916. Bradshaw was wounded in action, with Gun Shot/ shrapnel in his left arm 4.7.1917. This wound was received during action on the Somme, following the German Armies retreat to the Hindenburg Line. He was admitted to hospital at Le Havre 25.8.1917. Bradshaw rejoined his unit 6.10.1917. He was wounded in action (2nd time) with a gunshot wound to his head and right thigh in Zonnebeke, Belgium 20.10.1917. (AWM 16th Bn. War Diaries) He was transferred to England to the Beaufort War Hospital in Bristol. Bradshaw was then transferred to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford 24.1.1918. He was discharged to Hurdcott and listed for early return as an invalid.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 18.1.1919. Admitted to Fremantle Hospital with gunshot wound to left thigh and muscle weakness 21.9.1919. Discharged from hospital 25.1.1919.

Medical Condition Invalided, wounded and weakness to left leg.
