Military History
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Ascanius’ A11 for Egypt 2.11.1914.

Roll Unit 11th Infantry Battalion, ‘C’ Company.
Tattersell disembarked in Egypt with the 11th Battalion. ‘C’ Company. This Battalionn unit underwent intensive training from December through to April 1915. They then entrained to Alexandria, joined the MEF and embarked for Lemnos per HT ‘Suffolk’ 2.3.1915. From Lemnos they transferred to HT ‘City of London’ for Gallipoli 24.4.1915. The 11th Bn. landed at 4.30am at Gallipoli, to cover the landing of the other forces. The 11th Bn. fought at Gaba Tepe and Lone Pine. Tattersell became sick with dysentery 11.8.1915. He was taken to the 1st Casualty Clearing Station at Anzac 11.8.1915 and then transferred by HS ‘Gascon’ to Mudros. He was transferred to Malta and admitted to St Andrews Hospital then invalided to England per HS ‘Italia’. Tattersell was admitted to the County of London War Hospital 10.9.1915. He was taken on strength at Burtford Depot from Abbey Wood 8.6.1916. On discharge from hospital and when deemed fit for service, he proceeded overseas to France 15.3.1917. He rejoined his Unit 7.4.1917. Tattersell was promoted to Cpl. in the 11th Bn. 28.7.1917. He fought at Pozieres and in the trenches at Ypres. In May 1918, he completed a Gas School Course in France 13.5.1918. Tattersell was transferred from 11th Bn. to the 1st Australian Div. HQ (Australia Div. of Anti Gas Personnel) 17.6.1918 and was promoted to Sgt, 17.6.1918. On demobilization, he marched in to England for return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked 15.1.1919.
Discharged (2 MD) 24.3.1919.
Final Rank Sgt 28th Bn. AIF.
