Military History
Stent was given permission to enlistment as underage given by relative W.H. Stent (who had a vineyard in Caversham).
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Hororata’ A20 for Egypt 4.10.1915.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 4th Reinf, 28th Battalion, 7th Brigade, AIF.
Stent disembarked with the 28th Bn. at Suez. He was taken on strength at Tel-el-Kebir 19.1.1916. The 28th Bn. joined the BEF at Alexandria and embarked for France 16.3.1916. They disembarked at Marseilles 21.3.1916. The 28th Bn. fought its first major battle on the Western Front at Pozieres in July 1916. Stent was wounded in action at Pozieres (1st time) receiving a GSW to his right foot 29.7.1916. He was evacuated from Calais per HS ‘New Haven’ to England 7.8.1916. Stent was admitted to the East Leeds War Hospital. He was discharged when fit and proceeded overseas to France per HT ‘Clementine’ 12.1.1917. Stent rejoined his unit and was appointed L/Cpl. 6.5.1917, then Cpl. 17.10.1917. He marched in to the 6th Training Bn. and attended a Lewis Gun Course at the Australian School of Musketry, Tidworth 14.4.1918-18.4.1918. He proceeded overseas to France and rejoined his unit 2.8.1918. Stent was wounded in action at Amiens (2nd occasion) receiving a GSW to his head 29.8.1918. He was transferred to No 6 General Hospital at Rouen 30.8.1918 then evacuated by HS ‘Aberdonian’ to England 1.9.1918. Stent was admitted to the 4th General Hospital at Plymouth 2.9.1918. On discharge he was granted leave. He marched in to Longbridge, Deverill and was listed for early return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 15.3.1919.
Discharged 8.5.1919.
