Roll Unit 3rd Infantry Brigade, 11th Infantry Battalion, ‘F’ Coy, AIF.
Steadman disembarked in Egypt. To Alexandria and joined MEF. Embarked Alexandria per HMT ‘Suffolk’ for Gallipoli Peninsula 2.3.1915. The 11th Bn. as part of the 3rd Bde. provided the covering force for the ANZAC landing 25.4.1915. They were involved in defending the frontline beachhead (AWM 11th Bn.). Steadman was admitted by the 2nd Field Ambulance with a septic hand. He was admitted to the 1st Casualty Clearing Station and his hand was described as having been wounded in action with a GSW 20.7.1915. Steadman was evacuated per HS ‘Valdivia’ 12.8.1915 to Mudros with a septic hand from shot wound. He was admitted to the hospital at Fort Ricasoli 25.8.1915. On recovery he was discharged and embarked for Egypt 26.9.1915. The was admitted to hospital with a septic arm 31.1.1916. Steadman was Hospitalised with a debility 24.3.1916. He marched in to Tel-el-Kebir and was taken on strength at Gizeh 13.3.1916. As part of the AIF reorganization with the planned action on the Western Front, Steadman was transferred to the 51st Bn. He entrained to Alexandria as Acting Cpl. joined the BEF and embarked for France 7.6.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 14.6.1916. Steadman reverted to rank on joining the Bn. in France. He was appointed T/Cpl in the Field 26.9.1916 and Cpl. 1.11.1916. Steadman was promoted to Sgt. in France 31.1.1917. He was granted 2 weeks leave and rejoined his Unit in France 30.3.1917. The 51st Bn fought at Noreuil in April 1917 as part of an offensive action as the German Army retreated towards the Hindenburg Line (AWM 51st Bn) Steadman was wounded in this action (2nd Time) with a GSW to his left arm 2.4.1917. He was invalided to UK per HS ‘Princess Elizabeth’ and admitted to the Norfolk War Hospital 5.4.1917. Steadman was placed on the Superanuary List as Sgt. 2.7.1917. He was put on command a the No.3 School at Candahar Barracks Tidworth 19.11.1917. He qualified for Commission in the Infantry at No.5 Officers Cadet Bn. Marched in to Codford from Admin. HQ in London 12.6.1918. Steadman was admitted to Tidworth Hospital with Influenza 22.6.1918. He proceeded overseas to France as 2nd Lieut. 19.7.1915 and was taken on Strength with 51st Bn. 28.7.1918 Steadman was wounded in action (3rd time) with concussion at Harbonnieres 24.8.1918 (AWM 51st Bn. War Diary). He was invalided to England 31.8.1918 and listed for early return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 22.1.1919.
Discharged/ Appointment Terminated 23.3.1919.
