Military History
Roach enlisted in Perth with the artillery. He was underage and received parental permission for overseas service. He was and transferred to Maribyrnong, Vic with further Artillery Training 13.9.1916 – 1.11.1916.
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Hororata’ A20 for 23.11.1916.
Roll Rank Gunner.
Roll Unit 8th Reinforcement, 10th Field Artillery Brigade.
Roach disembarked at Plymouth with the 10th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) 29.1.1917. He marched in to Larkhill from Perham Downs 26.3.1917. After several months of intensive training, he proceeded overseas to France 26.7.1917. Roach transferred to 8th Div. Light Trench Mortar Battery (LTMB) 1.8.1917. Roach was sent to the ANZAC Corps Training School 11.9.1917. He returned and transferred to the 5th DAC from the 8th LTMB 9.11.1917. The was sent to the 2nd Army Trench Mortar Training School 16.12.1917. Roach was transferred to the 13th Field Artillery Bde. 6.5.1918. He was promoted to T/Bdr. 1.4.1919. Roach reverted to rank for Furlough 23.4.1919. His rank was resumed on return. He was listed as Gunner for his return to Australia.
Embarked England for Australia per ‘Konigin Louise’ 21.6.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 23.8.1919.
Discharged 10.9.1919.
Final Rank Gunner, 13th Field Artillery Brigade.
