Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Itonus’ A50 for Egypt 22.2.1915.

Roll Unit 11th Battalion, 3rd Reinf, AIF
Page disembarked in Egypt. After a brief period of intensive training, he entrained to Alexandria and joined the MEF. Page embarked for Gallipoli 17.5.1915. His Bn. fought at Lone Pine in August 1915. In August, he was transferred by the 6th Field Ambulance to the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station. He was invalided to the 25th Casualty Clearing Station at Imbros and transferred to the Canadian Hospital at Lemnos 16.9.1915. Page was transferred to the Australian Rest Camp 9.10.1915. He was deemed fit for service and rejoined his Bn. at Gallipoli 12.10.1915. The 11th Bn. was evacuated per HMT ‘Lake Michigan’ to Alexandria 6.1.1916. After a further period of training, Page joined the BEF at Alexandria and embarked per HMT ‘Corsican’ for France 29.3.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 8.4.1916 and was taken on strength with his unit in the field. Page was appointed Lance Cpl. 2.6.1916. The 11th Bn. participated in their first major battle at Pozieres in July 1916 (AWM 11th Bn). Page was promoted to Cpl. 5.8.1916 and Temp. Sgt. 7.8.1916. He was KIA in the field some time between the 20 and 23rd of August 1916 (reported Western Mail 6.10.1916). He was buried in the field. In 1920 the War Graves Commission re interred his remains to Courcelette British Cemetery, Picardie, France. 5 miles North East of Albert.

Notes. His brother Trooper Frank Page was killed in the South African Boer War 1901.
