Ogden was transported to Victoria to join with the South Australians who formed the rest of the 16th Bn They formed the 4th Bde. under the command of General Monash (AWM 16th Bn.).
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Ceramic’ A40 for Egypt 22.12.1914.

Ogden disembarked with his Bn. in Egypt in early February 1915. After a period of intensive training, they entrained to Alexandria, joined the MEF and embarked for Gallipoli. They landed at ANZAC Cove on the afternoon of 25.4.1915. Ogden fought with his Bn. at Bloody Angle in May 1915. He was evacuated from Gallipoli with tonsillitis and was admitted to Kasr-el-Aini Hospital in Egypt 10.5.1915. He was listed for early return to Australia for a ‘change’.
He embarked for Adelaide 22.12.1914. After a period of rest he embarked at Fremantle per HMAT ‘Themistocles’ A32 for Egypt 13.10.1915. Ogden held the rank of private with 16th Bn. 10th Reinf.
Ogden disembarked in Egypt 3.11.1915. He was taken on Strength in Ismailia 5.12.1915. After a period of training, Ogden proceeded to Alexandria, joined the BEF and embarked for France with his Bn. 1.6.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 9.916. Odgen and the 16th Bn fought their first major battle on the Somme at Pozieres in July 1915. Ogden was appointed L/Cpl. 5.9.1916 and obtained a highly satisfactory report at 4th Aust Div. Signalling School 13.1.1917. Ogden fought with his Bn. at Bullecourt in April/May 1917. He became sick in Field 8.8.1917 and rejoined his Unit 19.8.1917. Ogden was wounded in action in the Field at the Canal Area by Ypres, by gassing (tear gas) 24.9.1917. He was evacuated from the field to Hospital in Rouen 2.10.1917. and taken to Duchy suffering effects of tear gas 7.10.1917. He was admitted to Hospital at Havre 28.11.1917 and rejoined his Bn. 10.12.1917. Ogden was promoted to Cpl. 4.1.1918. He was detached to 4th Army Signallers School 2.3.1918. Ogden was Court Martialled for producing a false pass his award was a reduction in rank. Ogden rejoined his unit as Private 10.12.1918. He became ill with influenza 24.2.1919. He marched out of France to England and was listed for return to Australia.
Embarked Cardiff per HT ‘Port MacQuarie’ for Australia 28.3.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 13.5.1919.
Discharged 20.7.1919.
