Military History
The new recruits for the 16th Bn. were transported to Victoria where they joined the South Australians recruits who were to make up their Bn. numbers.
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Ceramic’ for Egypt 22.12.1914.

Orr disembarked at Alexandria, Egypt. with the 16th Bn. 3.2.1915. They marched out to a training Camp at Cairo. After a period of intensive training, they entrained to Alexandria 11.4.1915, joined the MEF and embarked per HT ‘Hyda Pasha’ for Gallipoli. They landed at ANZAC Cove on the afternoon of 25.4.1915. Orr was wounded in action at Quinn’s Post with a GSW to his wrist 9.5.1915. He was transferred by HS ‘Gloucester Castle’ to No.1 General Hospital at Heliopolis 9.5.1915. Orr was transferred to the No.1 General Hospital at Cairo 6.5.1915. He was discharged to Base Details at Zietoun 13.7.1915. He rejoined his Bn. at Gallipoli 21.7.1915. Orr was wounded in action (2nd time) receiving a GSW to his back 9.8.1915. He was transferred to the No.2 Stationary Hospital at Mudros 15.9.1915. He was transported per HS ‘Aquitania’ as invalid to England 18.9.1915. He was admitted to the King George Hospital, Stanford St. London. S.E. 26.9.1915. Orr was listed for early return to Australia as invalid.
Embarked per HT ‘Portland’ for Australia 17.3.1916.
Returned/Disembarked 30.4.1916.
Discharged 1.6.1916.
Final Rank 16th Bn AIF.
