Embarked Albany per HMAT 'Port Melbourne' A16 for England 22.7.1917.

Groves disembarked at Liverpool 16.9.1918 with the Army Supply Corps (ASC). He marched in to Army Supply Corps Depot. (ASCD) He transferred to the Training Depot at Parkhouse and then to the Artillery Details Parkhouse. Groves was transferred to the Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery (RBAA) at Larkhill l 12.10.1917. He proceeded overseas to France with RBAA (Reinf.) per HT ‘Heytesbury’ via Southampton 13.2.1918. Groves was promoted to Driver on embarkation. He was transferred to 3rd Army Bde., Australian Field Artillery(AFA) from Reinf. 7.3.1918. He fought at the Third battle of Ypres and remained with AFA until Armistice. He requested Special Leave to study motor mechanics at 78 York St, London SW. He reported back to Sutton Veny after his leave. Groves marched into HQ London for return to Australia 9.9.1919.
Embarked for Australia per ‘Port Sydney’ 22.9.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 4.11.1919.
Discharged 4.12.1919.
Final Rank Driver, 3rd Army Bde AFA.

Notes Father Archibald Groves (SN5336) served in WW1 AMC (Australian Medical Corps) and died 11.8.1949. Charles served with the Ammunition Supply Column (ASC) . HMAT 'Port Melbourne' was originally known as SS 'Star of Victoria' A16.
