Military History
Embarked Sydney per HMAT ‘Kyarra’ A55 for England 3.6.1916.

Gugeri disembarked at Plymouth with the 18th Reinf. 4th Bn. 3.8.1916. He marched in with his Unit to the 1st Training Bn. After 2 months of intensive training, Gugeri proceeded overseas to France 30.9.1916. He marched into the base depot at Etaples and 3 days later was admitted to hospital with Mumps 4.10.1916. He was moved to the Isolation Camp 6.10.1916 and to the No.6 Convalescent Depot 31.10.1916. Gugeri was admitted to the No. 5 Convalescent Depot 15.11.1916. He was discharged 28.11.1916 and marched in to Base Depot at Etaples 4.12.1916. Gugeri again became ill and was admitted to the 26th General Hospital with Neuralgia 30.12.1916. On discharge, he was admitted to the No 6 Convalescent Depot at Cayeux 4.1.1917. He was discharged from Cayeux Convalescent Depot in 5.5.1917. Gugeri commenced an Army Intelligence Course 28.10.1917. He rejoined his Bn. 23.11.1917 and took 4 weeks leave from January 1918. Gugeri rejoined his Unit in February 1918, however, was admitted to hospital with scabies 3 weeks later. Gugeri was admitted to the 25th General Hospital in France with ICT (septic fingers) – possibly a wound and was transferred by HS ‘Jan Breydel’ to England. He was admitted to Fort Pitt General Hospital in Chatham 15.4.1918 and was discharged to duty 1 month later. Gugeri marched in to Australian HQ in London 15.5.1918. He was admitted to hospital with a debility 8.6.1918. On discharge, he marched in to the No 3 Command Training Depot 30.7.1918 and from there to Sutton Veny. Gugeri joined the Pioneer Training Bn. at Sutton Veny 30.9.1918 and was admitted to Fovant Hospital with jaundice 13.11.1918. He was listed for return to Australia per HT ‘Ulysses’ but did not embark. Gugeri prepared for return to Australia in March 1919 with a SW to his right hand.
Embarked Portland per ‘ Euripides’ for return to Australia 3.3.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Sydney 10.4.1919.
Discharged 21.4.1919.

Awards and Medals British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes Gugeri enlisted in WW2 with a stated 20% disability. His British War Service Medal was later found with a bundle of Currency notes on a Japanese Prisoner of War in 1946.
His father was a Resident Magistrate and Clerk of Courts.
