Military History
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Anchises’ A68 for Egypt with 2.9.1915.

Roll Unit 7th Infantry Brigade, 28th Bn., 3rd Reinf.
Green disembarked in Egypt with the 28th Bn. 3rd Reinf. After a short period of intensive training they joined MEF at Zietoun 7.11.1915, entrained to Alexandria and embarked for Mudros. This Unit joined 28th Bn. Mudros 29.12.1915, following the Bn. evacuation from Gallipoli. They were transferred to Alexandria per ‘Ansonia’ 8.1.1916. Green was transferred to the 2nd Pioneers 9.3.1916 that was formed in Egypt at that time. He joined the BEF and embarked from Alexandria per ‘Minneapolis’ 14.3.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles with his Unit 19.3.1916. The 2nd Pioneers were sent to Armentieres, a quieter ‘nursery section’ before being sent to the front on the Somme at Pozieres in July 27.7.1916. Green was wounded on the Somme possibly near Gueudecourt. He was admitted to the 14th Field Ambulance in Belgium 2.11.1916 with burns to his foot. He was hospitalised at Rouen 11.11.1916 and sent to a Convalescence Depot 8.12.1915. He was discharged to Base Details 10.12.1916 and rejoined the joined 7th Field Company Engineers in France 24.12.1916. He took leave in England 16.3.1918 then rejoined his Unit in France 6.4.1918. Green worked as a cook with No 2. Section. He was shelled with a group of 5 men when returning to the front from their billets. Green was KIA by shell fire 27.5.1918. He was buried nearby at Franvillers Communal Cemetery (3 ¾ miles NE of Corbie), Row C, Grave 7 (7th Field Company) now described as Franvillers Communal Cemetery Extension, Franvillers, Corbie Albert Area, France. Awards and Medals 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes His father was killed by a train in Guildford 1911, leaving his mother a widow. (West Australian Newspaper 3.4.1911) His uncle and four cousins were KIA. Green's brother Charles William (SN 5967) returned home after active service.
