Embarked Fremantle per ‘Miltiades’ for England 9.8.1916.

Green disembarked in Plymouth with the 16th Bn. 22.9.1916. He reverted to Private on marching in to the 4th Training Bn. at Codford 26.9.1916. Green was promoted to Ed. Probationary Sgt. of the 4th Training Bn. 26.9.1916. Green reverted to Private. 16.5.1917. His records do not record him fighting on the front in France. He was listed for an early return to Australia, invalided with aortic stenosis. Green was promoted to Sergeant for the Voyage home only (VO Sgt.) 16.5.1917and reverted to rank when he marched in to Australia. His file noted there was some discussion about his final rank.
