Military History
Gardiner was a Trooper with 33rd Reinf. 10th Light Horse Depot Squadron 23.5.1917. He attended the NCO School Claremont 10.11.1917 and then to a School of Instruction.
Embarked Fremantle per RMS ‘Ormonde’ for Egypt. 13.3.1918.

Roll Unit 3rd Light Horse Regt. 10th LH.33rd Reinf.
Gardiner disembarked at Suez with the 10th Light Horse 4.4.1918. He marched out to Machine Gun Training Squadron 22.5.1918. Gardiner transferred to the 3rd Machine Gun Squadron 5.7.1918. He transferred back to the Depot Squadron 10th Light Horse 6.7.1918. Gardiner was reported sick with severe malaria 27.8.1918. He was hospitalised at Port Said 3.9.1918. He was discharged from Hospital and marched out to the 3rd Australian Machine Gun Squadron 4.3.1919. He was listed for return on demobilization.
Embarked Kantara, Egypt per ‘Oxfordshire’ for Australia 10.7.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Australia 4.8.1919.
Discharged 22.10.1919.

Notes Tom Gardiner entered his father's business in 1916, the year prior to enlisting. He was invalided home and continued working at his father's buiness James Gardiner Ltd in Perth. He became a sworn valuer and was attorney for the Trust Union Ltd, an importnan London financial institution with Holdings in Australia. (Daily News 28.3.1929 p8)
