Military History
Garnsworthy was enlisted with the West Guildford Volunteer Rifles, he was selected for NCO School at Claremont and then secured a place at Duntroon. He was made 2nd Lt. 6.8.1917.
Embarked at Albany per ‘Port Melbourne’ A16 for England 23.7.1917.

Garnsworthy disembarked at Liverpool 16.9.1917. He joined the 11th Training Bn. 17.9.1917, then transferred to the 10th Training Bn. 19.11.1917. After a brief but intensive period of training, Garnsworthy proceeded to France 4.1.1918 via Southampton. He was taken on Strength 10.1.1918 and was promoted to Lieut. 26.1.1918. In March 1918 the 44th Bn. was rushed to France to defend the railways near Amiens, against the German attack. (AWM 44th Bn) Garnsworthy was wounded in action by a shell at Amiens 30.3.1918, with a GSW to his left hand and buttock. He was taken to the 11th Field Ambulance Station where he was listed as dangerously ill 30.3.1917. Garnsworthy was invalided to the UK per HS ‘Newhaven’ 27.4.1918 and admitted to the Duchess of Westminster Hospital 12.4.1918 then transferred to the 3rd London General Hospital 27.4.1918. Garnsworthy was listed for return to Australia for a ‘rest’.
Embarked for Australia per HT D14 30.6.1918. He disembarked at Suez and transhipped per HS ‘Kanowna’ to continue on to Australia.
