Edwards disembarked in Egypt. He was taken on Strength with the 28th Bn at Tel-el Kebir 19.1.1916, soon after the evacuation from Gallipoli. He entrained to Alexandria, joined BEF and embarked for France 16.3.1916. He disembarked with his Bn. at Marseilles 21.3.1916. The 28th Bn were engaged in their first major battle at Pozieres between July and August 1916.(AWM 28th Bn) Edwards was KIA 28 - 29.7.1916 at Pozieres, France. He was buried in the Field. The War Graves Commission re-interred his remains in 1924 to Serre Rd. Cemetery, No.1 Hebuterne. 6 ½ miles North of Albert, France. Plot 9, Row A, Grave 7. Now known as Serre Rd Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel, Hamel Area, Picardie, France.
