Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Surada’ A 52 for Plymouth. 22.9.1916 .

Davies disembarked with the 51st Bn. 28th Reinf. in Plymouth England. He marched into the the 7th Training Bn. Camp for a period of one month's training before embarking at Folkstone with the 15th training Bn. per 'Princess Clementine' for France 21.12.1916. Davies marched into the 2nd Australian Division Base Depot at Etaples 2.12.1916 and was taken on strength with the 28th Bn. 18.1.1917. No records exist to confirm which battles Davies fought in, however, the 28th Bn. played a supporting role at the Second Battle of Bullecourt, Menin Road and Broodseinde Ridge. In 1918 the Bn. fought to turn back the German Spring Offensive. Davies was was promoted from Private to L/Corporal 7.1.1918. He was awarded a Military Medal 12.7.1918 for bravery in the field at Morlancourt near Albert, France. He fought with his Bn. to break through the Beaurevoir Line in October 1918. Davies was promoted to Cpl. in France 27.9.1918 then to Temp. Sgt., he then reverted to Cpl. and appointed L/Sgt in 1919.
Embarked for Australia per ‘Windhuk’.
Returned/Disembarked to Australia 7.5.1919.
Discharged 20.10.1919.

‘During the operation at Morlancourt, near Albert on the night of the 10th/11th June 1918. This NCO was a member of a carrying party. After having made 2 trips under heavy shell fire, to the captured objective - the second trip being of 1 mile, he volunteered for a bombing attack with another Company, and did excellent work in assisting repulse a German bombing attack. (He then carried a wounded Sgt back to the RAP, a distance of about 1 mile’.
