Military History

Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Berrima’ for England 25.12.1916.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit. 8th Reinf. 51st Bn. 13th Infantry Bde. AIF.
Davies was appointed Cpl. for the Voyage Only (VO) 27.12.1916. He disembarked at Devonport England with the 51st Bn. 8th Reinf. 16.2.1917. Davies marched in to Hurdcott to the 15th Training Bn. 21.2.1917. He then marched into Codford to 13th Training Bn. 6.3.1917 and was appointed A/Cpl 22.7.1917. Davies proceeded overseas to France 14.6.1917. He was taken on strength with the 51st Bn. 4.7.1917. He fought with his Bn. at Passchendaele and was wounded in action with a GSW and compound fractures of the left leg 26.9.1917 .
Davies Died of wounds, 26.9.1918, at No. 3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in the field. He was buried Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, (1 ¾ miles SW of Poperinghe), Plot 25, Row D, Grave 9 .

Medical Condition. Dec’d died of wounds 26.9.1918.

Notes Brother H.G. Davies was KIA. Wife remarried and was reported as deceased in 1920. WIlliam Enoch Ernest was known as Ernie Davies. His brother Lionel served in WW1, having previously worked at his father's blacksmithing business at 185 James Street, Guildford. WA.
