Military History
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ’Berrima’ A35 for England 23.12.1916.

Roll Unit 4th Infantry Brigade, 16th Battalion. 23rd Reinforcements.
King disembarked with the 23rd Reinforcements 16th Battalion at Devonport 16.2.1917. He marched in to the 4th Training Battalion at Codford 24.2.1917. King proceeded overseas with the Training Battalion to France, via Southampton 22.5.1917. He was transferred to 16th Battalion and taken on strength 16.6.1917. His Battalion saw action at Pozieres from the 23rd July to 7th August. King was wounded in action in the Field with a gunshot wound to his right arm and right leg 5.8.1917 (West Australian Newspapers 11.9 1917 wounded). He was taken to the 26th General Hospital at Etaples. King was discharged and rejoined his unit 6.10.1917. The harsh conditions of trench warfare on the Somme resulted in many problems with the soldiers’ feet. King was admitted to hospital in France with frostbite and trench feet 4.1.1918 (West Australian Newspapers 19.9.1918). He was invalided to England by Hospital Ship 9.1.1918 and admitted to Reading War Hospital 1.1.1918. On recovery, he proceeded overseas to France 22.5.1918 and detached to 4th Division Ammunition Column 7.8.1918. He marched out from France for return to Australia
