Military History
Embarked Fremantle HMAT ‘Medic’ A7 for Egypt 3.10.1914.

Roll Unit 8th Battery, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade.
Campbell disembarked in Egypt with the 38th Battery Field Artillery Brigade. After a short period of training he joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in Alexandria for Gallipoli 4.4.1915. He fought with his Battery at ANZAC and was evacuated from there in December 1915. He was appointed Acting Bombardier in Tel-el-Kebir 22.1.1916. Campbell joined the British Expeditionary Force in Alexandria 23.3.1916 and embarked for France. He disembarked at Marseilles 29.3.1916. Campbell was transferred to the 2nd Army Field Artillery in France 29.6.1916. He fought on the Somme until he became sick with the Influenza. He was transferred to 1st Casualty Clearing Station, then invalided to England per Hospital Ship ‘Jan Breydel’ 4.7.1916 and admitted to hospital with malaria. On discharge from Hospital he was cleared as fit for active service and proceeded overseas to France 28.3.1917. Marched in to 1st Division Artillery 7.4.1917 and was detached to 4th Division Australian Field Artillery 29.4.1917. Cameron was promoted to Bombardier 16.4.1918. In early 1919 he was transferred to England for Special Transport Duty (no.2 Section Army Service Corps) 1.9.1918. He disembarked at Dover for London and was listed for return to Australia with Submarine Guard Duty.
