Embarked Fremantle per ‘Anchises’ for Egypt 2.9.1915.

Roll Unit 8th Reinforcements 10th Light Horse.
Campbell disembarked in Egypt with the 8th Reinforcement 10th Light Horse and marched in to Heliopolis 26.2.1916. He marched out to Serapeum with his unit and fought to maintain the British hold on the Suez Canal. Campbell was diagnosed and hospitalized with synovitis (inflammation of joints) 14.6.1916 He returned to duty at the Railhead Suez 23.6.1916. Campbell, as part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Forces was transferred to the Damascus Machine Gun Section. He was moved to Damascus 15.11.1916. His diary detailed the Charge at Damascus of the Light Horse 10th Light Horse . He was promoted to Lance Corporal 15.7.1917. Campbell suffered with Bronchitis 9.10.1917, Tonsillitis 8.12.1918 and Malaria 8.8.1918. He was commanded to the School of Instruction Zietoun 28.12.1918. After service in Gaza, Damascus, Palestine and Sinai he embarked per ‘Ellenga’ for England 16.10.1919. On demobilization, Campbell enrolled in a post war in course at London Wool Exchange where he was billeted to private accommodation. He embarked for Australia on completion of his course.
