Embarked from Fremantle per HMAT ‘Suffolk’ A23 for England 10.10.1916.

Roll Unit 44th Infantry Bn. AIF
McCall disembarked at Plymouth 2.12.1916. He marched into the 3rd Divisional Training Bn. He proceeded overseas to France per SS ‘Invicta’ via Folkestone and was taken on strength with 44th Bn. in France 8.2.1917. The 44th Bn. spent a harsh winter in the trenches. They fought their first major Battle at Messines and then at Broodseinde Ridge in June 1917 (AWM 44th Bn.). McCall was hospitalised sick 7.7.1917 and transported to England. He marched into the 11th Training Bde. 12.7.1917. McCall proceeded overseas to France and was taken on strength with his Unit. He was appointed L/Cpl. 16.9.1917. McCall was hospitalised sick in France 20.9.1917. He rejoined his Unit as L/Corp. 8.11.1917 and reverted to the rank of Private at his own request 15.11.1917. McCall was transferred to the 44th Bn. and detached to duty. He was transferred to Aust. Reinf. Camp from 44th Bn. 17.11.1917 and rejoined his Unit 2.5.1919. McCall marched into England for return to Australia
Embarked England per HT ‘Main’ for return to Australia 23.7.1919.
Returned/Disembarked 27.9.1919.
Discharged 12.11.1919.
