Embarked HMAT ‘Borda’ A30 for England 29.6.1917.

Roll Unit 25th Reinf. 16th Infantry Bn. AIF
Fry disembarked at Plymouth with the 16th Bn. 25.8.1917. He marched in to the 4th Training Bn. at Codford 26.8.1917. After a 4 month period of training, he proceeded overseas to France to reinforce the 44th Bn. 4.12.1917. Fry was taken on strength in field with the 44th Bn 10.12.1917. The 44th Bn. fought at Messines in Belgium, Broodseinde Ridge and Ypres in, 1917. In March and April 1918, they fought against the German Spring Offensive in France, by heading off an attack on the railway at Amiens (AWM 44th Bn).
Fry was KIA at Sailly- le- Sec, France 30.3.1918. He was buried where he fell, about 1,500 yards South of Heilly. His body was not recovered. Fry is commemorated at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial MR 26, Part II, C-F., Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.
