Embarked Fremantle per ‘Miltiades’ for UK. 29.1.1917.

Roll Unit 198th Reinforcement 28th Battalion.
Burton disembarked at Devonport, UK with the 19th Reinforcement 28th Battalion 27.3.1917. He marched in to the 7th Training Battalion at Rollestone 28.3.1917. Burton proceeded overseas to France with his unit 25.9.1917. He marched in to France with 19th Reinforcement 28th Battalion and joined the 28th Battalion 3.10.191. He was taken on strength and fought at the battle of Poelcapelle. Burton was hospitalized sick 7.4.1918. He was wounded in action at Morlancourt 10.6.1918 and was invalided to England with a gunshot wound to his right ankle 14.6.1918. Burton was admitted to the Princess Christian Hospital, Enfield, Surrey 14.6.1918. He was transferred to the 1st Auxiliary Hospital at Harefield 29.6.1918 and listed for early return to Australia as an invalid.
Embarked for Australia from England per ‘Arawa’ 15.9.1918 for ‘a change’.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 10.11.1918.
Discharged 1.12.1918.

Notes The enlistment date has been corrected in several documents from 2.12.1916 to 3.1.1917. Burton returned from France and briefly worked as Staff at Guildford Grammar School, before proceeding to his studies as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University England.
