Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Seang Choon’ for England 18.7.1916.

Roll Unit 18th Reinforcement, 16th Battalion.
Annakin disembarked at Plymouth with the 16th Battalion. They marched in to 4th Training Battalion at Rollestone 10.6.1916. The Battalion proceeded overseas to France 28.11.1916. Annakin was admitted to hospital with laryngitis 16.12.1976. He was wounded in action 5.2.1917 in Belgium with a gunshot wound to his right foot and elbow (West Australian Newspaper 10.3.1917 whilst fighting on the Somme. His Battalion spent much of 1917 pushing forward to the Hindenburg Line from trenches in Belgium (AWM 16th Battalion). Annakin was invalided with a gunshot wound at the Battle of Guedecourt in France and transferred 5/2/1917 to England per Hospital Ship ‘St. David’. He was recommended for return to Australia for a ‘change’.

Notes Annakin married in Leeds in 1912. He divorced his wife on grounds of adultery whilst serving overseas (West Australian Newspaper 14.8.1920) and remarried . Four years later he married Kathleen McGuffie, they had one child. Annakin died in 1960 age 76 years
