Military History
Wood was underage when he attested and had a letter of permission from his father.
Embarked from Fremantle per RMS ‘Ormonde’ for Egypt 13.3.1918.
Roll Rank Recommended for Medical Corps.
Roll Unit. 28th Battalion, 22nd Reinf.
Wood disembarked at Suez 4.4.1918. He was taken on strength at Camp Suez. Wood was transferred to Port Teufik for embarkation per T15 ‘Ellingar’ to UK. He disembarked at Southampton 13.5.1918 and marched in with 6th Training Battalion to Fovant Training Camp at Codford. After several months of training, he proceeded overseas to France departing from Folkestone 8.8.1918. Wood transferred to the 51st Battalion. He then transferred to the 28th Battalion 16.8.1918. Wood was invalided to UK to with Trench Fever 30.8.1918. He was admitted to the Exeter War Hospital 31.8.1918. On recovery, he was transferred to Australian Army Pay Corps 4.12.1918. His speech impediment was deemed a debility and he was returned to Australia.
Embarked for Australia per ‘Port Sydney’ 22.9.1919.
Returned/Disembarked at Fremantle 4.11.1919.
Discharged 27.11.1919.

Medical Condition Debility, unspecified (possibly speech impediment).
Family lived at ‘Derisleigh’ West Guildford until 1909. One son -Keith was born there in 1901 (West Australian Newspaper 9.9.1901) Derisley appears to have had a similar name to the family home, where he grew up and spent his childhood. His mother was recorded as living in Turton St., Guildford in the Service Records although no specific home was located.
