Embarked Albany per ‘Port Melbourne’ A16 for England 24.7.1917.

Roll Unit 21st Reinf, 28th Battalion, AIF.
Wilde disembarked at Liverpool UK. with the 21st Reinf. 28th Battalion. He marched in to the 7th Training Battalion at Rollestone 17.9.1917. Wilde marched in to the 6th Battalion at Fovant 8.11.1917. He proceeded overseas to France, embarking at Southampton 23.1.1918. Wilde marched in to the Australian Infantry Base Depot (AIBD) at Havre 24.1.1918. Wilde was transferred to Reinf. the 16th Battalion 23.1.1918 and taken on strength in the field 29.1.1918. The 16th Battalion fought in the German Spring Offensive in March and April 1918. Wilde was KIA at Hebuterne, France 5.4.1918. Red Cross Files note he was hit in the head by a sniper’s bullet at the front line trenches. He was buried with several other men by comrades behind the front line in a quarry. A cross was made and erected on site and the grave was ringed with metal shell cases (AWM Red Cross File). His remains were reinterred to Euston Rd. British Cemetery, France. Plot 4, Row N. at a location ½ miles NE of Albert. Today the address of the cemetery is known as Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, Picardie, France. (for further details see the Australian War Graves Commission web site)

Wilde's wife later moved to 9 Hugh St. Guildford. WA. (West Australian Newspapers 28.4.1920) She remarried and her surname changed to Kallinikos- moved to Melbourne. Vic.
