Military History
Embarked Fremantle per ‘ Hororata’ for Egypt 1.10.1915.

Roll Unit 28th Battalion, 4th Reinf, AIF.
Turner disembarked in Egypt with the 28th Bn 4th Reinf. He was taken on Strength at Tel el Kebir 19.1.1916. He was then transferred to Alexandria, joined BEF and embarked 16.3.1916 for France. He disembarked at Marseilles 21.3.1916. The 28th Bn. was engaged in its first major battle on the Western Front at Pozieres, in July 1916. (AWM 28th Bn.). Turner was wounded in action at Pozieres, France 29.7.1916. During a charge to enemy trenches, he was struck by shell fragments sustaining a shell wound to his face, right eye and leg. His right eye was severely damaged. Turner was transferred per HS ‘New Haven’ to England as an invalid. His right eye was removed at Brook War Hospital, Woolwich 5.8.1916. Turner was listed for early return to Australia as an invalid with potential for home service.

Returned/Disembarked 9.7.1917.
Discharged 17.8.19 as permanently unfit for war or general service.
