Embarked Fremantle per OC Troops ‘Port Melbourne’ A16 for UK 30.10 1916.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 4th Division, 48th Infantry Battalion, 6th Reinf, AIF.
Treloar disembarked at Devonport 28.12.1916. He marched in to the 12th Training Bn. at Codford 28.12.1916. After a period of intensive training, he proceeded overseas to France 13.3.1917. Treloar was taken on strength with the 48th Bn as part of the 4th Division 6.4.1917. To assist in the Arras operations, an attack was launched at Bullecourt by the 4th and 12th Divisions. These Divisions suffered over 3,300 casualties in this battle (AWM First Battle of Bullecourt). Treloar was reported wounded and missing in action at Bullecourt, France 11.4.1917.  He was variously described as shot in the buttocks and shot through the nose (AWM Red Cross files). Private Simms was later to report that Treloar was wounded and placed in a  German dugout with other wounded, however, the line had to be evacuated and they were forced to leave the wounded. The trench was taken by the German Army (AWM Red Cross Files). The Court of Enquiry (29.12.1917) later determined, after POW lists had been exhausted, that Treloar  had been wounded and now  was considered KIA in the field, France 11.4.1917. His body was exhumed and re interred at Bailleul Road East Cemetery, France, Plot 3, Row ‘C’, Grave 4. 2 ½ miles NE of Arras, France. This cemetery is today described as Bailleul Road East Cemetery, St Laurent-Blangy, Arras, Nord Pas de Calais, France

Notes Treloar is commemoratd on the Burra War Memorial and Goyder Honour Board in SA.
