Military History
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Anchises’ A38 for Egypt 1.9.1915.

Roll Unit 7th Brigade, 28th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Reinf.
Terry disembarked in Egypt. After a brief period of training, he embarked with the MEF for Gallipoli. He joined his unit at Anzac 12.10.1915 and was taken on strength. The 28th Bn. relieved the war weary ANZAC troops who had been fighting since April 1915 (AWM 28th Bn). Terry was evacuated from Gallipoli to Mudros and from Mudros to Alexandria 10.1.1916. The AIF underwent a period of restructuring and organization for the Western Front. Terry entrained to Alexandria, joined the BEF and embarked for France 16.3.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 21.3.1916. The 28th Bn. fought their first major battle at Pozieres in July 1916. Terry was wounded in action at Pozieres, with a bomb wound to his ribs 29.7.1916. He was admitted to the 13th General Hospital at Boulogne 29.7.1916. Terry returned to his unit 29.8.1916. He became sick with mumps and was admitted to hospital 11.1.1917. He rejoined his unit 3.3.1917. The 28th Bn. fought at Bullecourt in May, Ypres, Menin Road and Polygon Woods in 1917. Terry was hospitalised with an accidental injured sprained ankle 7.1.1918. This incident was investigated by a Court of Enquiry who determined it an accidental injury. Terry was admitted sick to hospital with a debility February 1919. Terry was due to embark per HMAT ’Anchises’ but did not embark. He did embark on a later ship.
