Teesdale–Smith enlisted with ‘A’ Coy 10th Infantry Bn. This was one of the first units raised in WW1 in August 1914 in SA. The 10th Bn. sailed just 2 months later, stopping at Albany, en-route for Egypt.
Embarked Adelaide per HMAT ‘Ascanius’ A11 for Egypt 20.10.1914.

Teesdale–Smith disembarked in Egypt in early December 1914. After a period of training, he entrained to Alexandria and joined the MEF 29.1.1915 and embarked per HT ‘Ionian’ for Gallipoli 2.3.1915. The 3rd Bde formed the covering force for the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli on 25.4.1915. Teesdale-Smith was KIA 27.4.1915. It was first stated that he was buried in the Valley of Death by Chaplain McKenzie. Later reports stated he was buried at Shrapnel Valley Cemetery ANZAC, DI Grave 3. Later the cemetery was renumbered and Teesdale–Smith’s grave was noted as located at Shrapnel Valley Cemetery Plot 4, Row A , Grave 23. 400 yards S.E. ANZAC Cove.

Notes Teasdale-Smith had brothers Paul and Boake on active service. Paul (SN528) returned invalided and Lieut. Boake Teesdale-Smith (SN1452) was KIA.
