Military History
To Training Depot 16.12.1914 with 13th Light Horse.
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT A34 ‘Persic’ for Egypt 28.5.1915.
Roll Rank Trooper.
Roll Unit ‘A’ Squadron, 13th Light Horse Regiment.
Skamp disembarked in Egypt. After a brief period of training, he joined the MEF at Alexandria and embarked for Gallipoli. He was promoted to Sgt. 28.8.1915. Skamp developed tonsillitis and was transferred by HS ‘Delta’ from Gallipoli Peninsula to Alexandria 16.10.1915. Skamp was transferred to the No.1 Auxiliary Hospital at Heliopolis 20.10.1915. He was transferred to the Helouan Convalescent Hospital with Jaundice 8.12.1915. Skamp was discharged from Hospital with alcoholism 7.5.1916. He joined the BEF at Alexandria and embarked overseas 11.5.1916. He was admitted to Tidworth Military Hospital with Tonsillitis 31.7.1917 (also possible tachycardia and hyper thyroidism). Skamp was promoted to 2nd Lieut. 19.10.1917. He proceeded overseas to France with the 1st ANZAC Army Corps Light Horse ex 13th Light Horse. He again fell sick and was admitted to the Delhi Hospital Tidworth 7.8.1917. On recovery, he proceeded overseas to France 8.8.1918. and was taken on strength with his Unit Army Corps Light Horse (ACLH) 24.8.1917. He was promoted to 2nd Lieut. 9.10.1917 and to Lieut. 1.4.1918. Skamp was transferred to the Australian Corps HQ 14.11.1918. He married Olive Embling 24.11.1918 whilst on leave from France then transferred to the UK pending his return to Australia 28.1.1919.

Note Second son of Richard B. Skamp and stepson of Mr Sydnet Piggott formerly of Broome. He worked with Messrs. Streeters and Co of Broome for 3 years from 1910 (Daily News 17.2.1910)
