Sadler enlisted with the 11th Bn. first infantry troop to be formed in WA on the first day of recruitment.
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT A11 ‘Ascanius’ 26.10.1914.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 11th Bn. AIF.
Sadler disembarked at Suez. His Bn. marched in to Camp at Suez and continued training until December. The 11th Bn. embarked with the MEF at Alexandria to form the covering force for the ANZAC landing party on 25.4.1915. Sadler became sick with diarrhoea 5.7.1915 and was transferred to HS ‘Clacton’. He was transferred to Mudros hospital 8.7.1915 and then moved to hospital at Alexandria. He was discharged to duty 18.9.1916 and taken on strength with the Postal Corps in Egypt 6.3.1916. Sadler was transferred to No.1 Coy Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) 18.10.1916.
He was admitted to Hospital sick 9.3.1917 and given ‘special leave with a ‘debility.’
Sadler was employed on Post Office Staff at Mustapha 6.1.1916 and transferred to the Postal Corps 6.3.1916. He was hospitalized briefly before joining the BEF at Alexandria. Sadler  joined the BEF, embarked for France per HT ‘Osmanich’ from Alexandria 22.3.1916 and disembarked at Marseilles 30.3.1916. He marched in to the 1st Australian Div, Base Depot at Calais and then to Etaples 26.9.1916. Sadler was attached to the 1st Div. HQ in the Field for postal duties to 1st Coy. Australian Supply Column 22.1.1917. He became sick with diarrhoea 9.3.1917 and was transferred by the 2nd Field Ambulance to a Casualty Clearing Station. Sadler returned to duty with the 1st Div Train 19.3.1917. He took 2 weeks leave in England before rejoining his unit 11.10.1918. He marched out from France for England 8.1.1918 for return to Australia.
Embarked for Australia per D34 ‘Port Hocking’ 3.12.1918.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 17.1.1919.
Discharged 25.3.1919.
Final Rank Private, Army Postal Corps.
Medical Condition NK.
