Military History
Read enlisted as Private in the 5th Reinf. 44th Bn. 20.6.1916. He transferred to 6th Reinf. 4th Pioneer Bn. 4.9.1916. Read was sent to Details Camp at Karrakatta 26.1.1917 and transferred to 25th Reinf. 16th Bn. 9.2.1917. Promoted to L/Cpl. 16.4.1917.
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Borda’ A30 England for 29.6.1917.

Read disembarked Plymouth 25.8.1917. Marched in to 4th Training Bn. at Codford Training Camp UK 26.8.1917. Read was appointed Acting Lance Cpl. at Codford. 31.8.1917. He reverted to rank 1.11.1918 and proceeded overseas to France via Southampton 18.12.1917. In France he was transferred to the 44th Bn. 24.12.1917. Read was admitted sick to Hospital with bronchitis 9.1.1918. He rejoined his unit 26.2 1918. Read was admitted sick to hospital 23.5.1918. He was transferred by HS ’W. Australia’ to England and admitted to Bath War Hospital, Bath England, with bronchitis 25.6.1918. Read was transferred to isolation Hospital with scabies 27.7.1918. he then transferred to the Provost Corps, at Tidworth 7.1918. Read marched in to Overseas Training Corps 7.11.1918 and was listed for return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 3.3.1919.
Discharged 8.4.1919.
