Military History
Piesse served with 25th Australian Light Horse Regt. He was promoted to 2nd Lieut. 23.10.1914 and Capt. 20.1.1915.
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ’Mashobra’ A47 for Egypt 8.2.1915.

Roll Unit 3rd Brigade Light Horse, 10th Light Horse Regiment, ‘A’ Squadron.
The 10th Light Horse (LH) Regt disembarked at Suez 8.3.1915. As Mounted Infantry, Piesse and other Troopers from the 10th Light Horse volunteered to go to Gallipoli. The ground was not suitable for horses so they agreed to operate as Infantry. The Regt. went to Alexandria and joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Forces (MEF). They embarked at Alexandria for Gallipoli 16.5.1915. Piesse was KIA as a consequence of the August Offensive in the Charge at The Nek 7.8.1915. His remains place was not located and no specific burial site was found.
Piesse is commemorated at the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Cannakkale Province, Turkey.
