Military History
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Argyllshire' A8 for England 9.11.1916.
Roll Unit 7th Infantry Brigade, 28th Battalion, 17th Reinf, AIF.
Pickett disembarked at Devonport 10.1.1917. He marched in to the 7th Training Bn. at Rollestone. Pickett and his Unit proceeded overseas to France from Southampton and marched into Havre 15.6.1917. He joined his unit from the Training Bn. 2 7.1917 and was taken on strength with the 28th Bn. 8.7.1917.
Pickett was wounded in action in Belgium with a GSW to his right shoulder 20.9.1917. This was probably at the Battle of Menin Road in which the 28th Bn was involved as part of the 3rd Battle of Ypres. He was taken by the 6th Field Ambulance to the 10th Casualty Clearing Station 22.9.1917. Pickett was transferred by HS to England and transferred to the Beaufort War Hospital 9.10.1917 (reported in West Australian Newspaper 9.11.1917) He was transferred to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital at Dartford 9.11.1917. He took 2 weeks furlough and reported to Hurdcott Camp 15.12.1917. He trained with the overseas Training Bde. at Longbridge before proceeding to France 1.5.1918.
Pickett rejoined his Unit 4.5.1918 and his Bn. 8.5.1918. He accidentally injured his hand 23.5.1918 and was transferred by Field Ambulance to the 20th Casualty Clearing Station. He was admitted to Hospital in France. Pickett was discharged to Base 17.8.1918, rejoined his Bn 26.8.1918. He was hospitalised briefly in March 1919 before marching out from Havre for Southampton 11.3.1919. Pickett marched in to Sutton Veny prior to his return voyage to Australia
