Military History
Pamment enlisted as a Private with the 11th Bn. He attended NCO School and was promoted to Cpl. 16.8.1916. He was promoted to Voyage Only Sgt. 1.11.1916 prior to embarkation.
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Argyllshire’ A8 for England 9.11.1916.

Roll Unit 11th Infantry Brigade, 43rd Battalion, 5th Reinf.
Pamment disembarked at Devonport 10.1.1917. He marched in to the 11th Training Bn. at Durrington, and reverted to rank of Private. He was promoted to Extra Depot (EDP) Cpl.9.3.1917. After a period of intensive training, he embarked for France 1.5.1917. Pamment marched in to the 3rd Division Base Details and was taken on strength with the 43rd Infantry Bn. and promoted to L/Cpl. 1.5.1917. He was promoted to T/Cpl 15.7.1917. The 43rd Bn. fought at Messiness in June 1917 and in October at the Third Battle of Ypres (AWM 43rd Bn.). Pamment slipped and injured his ankle in the trenches – reported wounded accidentally in the field 1.8.1917. He was admitted to the 12th General Hospital at Rouen 3.8.1917 and rejoined his Unit 26.8.1917. Pamment was promoted to Cpl. 1.9.1917, 2nd Lieut. 1.11.1917. He was detached to the Bde. Officers’ School 5.12.1917 and took leave to England 7.1.1918- 3.2.1918. Pamment was promoted to Lieut. 1.2.1918 and rejoined his Unit 3.2.1918. Pamment and his Bn. fought against the German Spring Offensive at the Battle of Hebuterne that commenced in March 1918. The 43rd Bn. marched from Selles to an area North of Villers-Bretonneux on the Somme. Pamment was KIA by a shell whilst holding the line near a village called Sailly-Le-Sec on 31.3.1918. He was buried in the at Heilly No.1 Military Cemetery on the River Ancre (AWM Red Cross Files). Today the cemetery is described as Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe, Picardie, France.
