Military History
Mountain had lost his brother Arthur Henry Torres at Gallipoli in 1915. He enlisted soon after turning 18 year of age and was required to have written parental permission to enlist. He applied for transfer from the 5th Military District Guard to Blackboy Hill 15.6.1917.
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Commonwealth’ A73 for Egypt 24.9.1917.

Roll Unit 3rd Brigade, 10th Light Horse Regiment, 31st Reinforcements.
Mountain disembarked in Egypt with the 10th Light Horse Regt. 9.11.1917 and marched in to Training Camp. He was admitted to hospital with Influenza 18.11.1917- 22.11.1917. Mountain marched out to the Reinforcement Camp at Moascar 10.12 1917. He attended the Imperial School of Instruction 16.1.1918 - 26.1.1918. Mountain attended the Hatch Kiss Gun Course at Zeitoun 25.1.1918. He marched out to 3rd Light Horse Bde. at Moascar 16.3.1918 and was transferred to 10th Light Horse Regt. 4.5.1918. Mountain developed malaria and was hospitalised in Palestine May 1918. He was sent to Rest Camp at Port Said for convalescence 11.12.1918. Mountain embarked for Tripoli per HT ‘Abbassia’ 23.12.191 and was transferred to the Australian Medical Div. HQ 15.1.1919. He marched in to Moascar 3.7.1919 for return to Australia.
Embarked Kantara per HT ‘Oxfordshire’ for Australia 10.7.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 4.8.1919.
Discharged 3.8.1919.
Final Rank Trooper, 3rd Light Horse Bde. 10th Light Horse Regt.
