Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Aeneas’ A60 for UK 30.10.1917.

Roll Unit 51st Battalion, 11th Reinforcement.
McCrae disembarked at Devonport 27.12.1917. He marched in to Codford Camp from Australia 27.12.1917. McCrae was appointed Acting L/Cpl 26.2.1918. He proceeded overseas to France 15.4.1918 and disembarked at Calais 16.4.1918. He marched in to base details and reverted to rank of Private. He was taken on strength with the 51st Bn. 22.4.1918, prior to the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. McCrae was wounded in action in the Field, gassed 30.4.1918. He was invalided to England by HS ‘Grantilly Castle’ 4.5.1918. He was admitted to the 3rd General Hospital, Oxford, with slight gas poisoning 5.5.1918. McCrae was admitted sick to the Camp Isolation Hospital with scabies 3.8.1918. He transferred from the 51st Bn. to the 4th Command Depot at Tidworth 21.8.1918 and returned to his Bn. 17.9.1918. McCrae transferred to Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) from the 11th Reinf. to 51st Bn. 17.9.1918 and was taken on strength. He was listed for return to Australia in 1919.

Returned/Disembarked Albany 10.4.1919.
Discharged 5.5.1919.
