Military History


Beasley was sent with his Artillery Battery to Melbourne attached to 3rd Division Field Artillery as Gunner. Transferred to 118 Howitzer Battery as A/Cpl at Maribyrnong Vic.
Embarked Melbourne per ‘Aeneas’ A60 for Plymouth UK 3.10.1916.
Roll Rank Sergeant.
Roll Unit 118th Howitzer Battery.
Beasley disembarked in England with 3rd Australian Division Artillery for training. He embarked with his Unit for France 8.2.1917. After 9 months on fighting on the Somme, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 24.11.1917 and to Lieutenant in 1.3.1918. The 38th Battalion fought at Messiness, Broodseinde and Passchendaele. Beasley was promoted to Adjunct 20.10.1918. He was made an Orderly with the 14th Field Artillery Brigade 27.2.1919, then demobilised and listed for return to Australia.
Embarked Liverpool for return to Australia per ‘Durham’ 22.5.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Australia 8.7.1919.
Discharged 28.8.1919.
Final Rank Lieutenant, 38th Battery, 3rd Division Field Artillery.
Medical Condition NK.
Awards and Medals British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes Father- Thomas Beasley, Staff Surveyor, Department of Lands and Titles died 1902 (Western Mail 9.8.1902)
Brother Robert Guildford Beasley KIA in WW1. Beasley's mother took in soldier boarders at her home at 20 East St.  J. Napier was one of those boarders.
