Roll Unit 44th Infantry Battalion. 7th Reinforcements Australian Imperial Force (AIF).
Jones disembarked at Devonport 27.3.1917. He marched in to Details at Fovant 28.3.1917. Jones marched in to the 11th Training Battalion at Durrington 18.4.1917. He proceeded to France via Southampton 20.8.1917. Jones was transferred from 44th Reinforcements to 44th Battalion in France 1.9.1917. The 44th Bn. fought at Ypres- Popperinge in early October 1917.(AWM4 23/61/13 War Diary 44th Bn). He was admitted to 11th Field Ambulance with sore feet following the march to Bleringhem 23.10.1917 (AWM4 23/61/13 War Diary 44th Bn. October 1917). Jones was gassed , he was transferred to 10th Stationary Hospital at Arques with Conjunctivitis 4.11.1917. He was then transferred to the 7th General Hospital with Trachoma 8.11.1917. Jones should be considered wounded in action . He was invalided and transported by Hospital Ship ‘Princess Elizabeth’ to England 8.11.1917. He was admitted to the General Military Hospital at Colchester 11.11.1917, then transferred to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital at Dartford 16.11.1917. Jones was discharged to No 2 Command Depot Weymouth 27.11.1917 and listed for return to Australia. He was invalided with Trachoma and symptoms from having been gassed.
Embarked for Australia on ‘Balmoral Castle’ 1.2.1918.
Returned/Disembarked 18.3.1918.
Discharged 27.5.1918.
