Military History
Embarked Adelaide per HMAT ‘Geelong’ A2 for Egypt 18.11.1915.

Roll Unit 8th Infantry Bde., 32nd Bn., ‘D’ Coy.
Honey disembarked with ‘D’ Coy, 32nd Bn. at Suez 18.12.1915. His Bn. joined the newly formed 5th Division in Egypt. They underwent a period of intensive training before entraining to Alexandria. They joined the BEF and embarked for France per ‘Transylvania’ 23.6.1916. Honey disembarked at Marseilles 23.6.1916. He was taken on strength with 32nd Bn. He worked as a cook up to 3 days before the Battle at Fromelles 19.7.1916. This was his first encounter with the enemy and it was during this battle that he was KIA by an enemy bayonet at Fleurbaix, between the first trench and the stated objective, on 19.7.1916 (AWM Red Cross File) His body was not recovered from where he fell, but the German Army reported his death and his dog tag was later forwarded to his wife. Honey is commemorated at VC. Corner, Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles Lille, Nord Pas de Calais. France.

Notes Honey's name is recorded at VC. Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial Fromelles. This cemetery has no head stones and commemorates 1,299 soldiers who were not recovered from this battle and the graves of 410 unidentified bodies in the cemetery.
