Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Berrima’ for UK. 23.11.1916.
Roll Rank Sergeant for Voyage.

Hare disembarked in the Devonport 16.2.1917 with the 5th Pioneer Bn. He marched in to the Pioneer Training Camp at Larkhill and reverted to the rank of Private. He was promoted to the rank of Temp Sgt. at Larkhill 18.2.1917. Hare proceeded overseas to France from Southampton 9.7.1917. He was appointed to the Australian Division Base Depot (ADBD) at Havre. He was appointed L/Cpl 9.8.1917. He proceeded to England for Officer Training Cambridge 19.11.1917. Hare marched out of Cambridge to Sutton Veny 4.5.1918. He was appointed as 2nd Lieut. 1.6.1918. Hare was sent to Musketry Training School at Tidworth 3.6.1918. After this training he proceeded overseas to France 21.6.1918. Hare was taken on strength with 5th Pioneers 26.6.1918. He was promoted to 2nd Lieut. then Lieut. 29.9.1918. Hare was wounded in action 29.9.1918, at Bellicourt (Australian Battle Fields WW 1) He received a GSW wound to his left thigh and left arm and was transferred to the 8th General Hospital in Rouen. He was admitted to the 3rd London General Hospital at Wandsworth 7.10.1918. On discharge from hospital, he was transferred to Sutton Veny, 3.12.1918. Hare marched in to Weymouth 3.1.1919. He was admitted to the 3rd London General Hospital 13.2.1919 with a Not Yet Diagnosed condition (NYD). He convalesced in Ireland 18.3.1919. Hare terminated his service with AIF in England 14.8.1919 as a consequence of demobilization 20.9.1919. He chose to stay with his employment source in Ireland and not to return to Australia.

On 29th September1918 this Officer took a prominent part in reconnoitering the village of Bellicourt, before mopping up done had been and while the village was subject to heavy enemy fire. He had at all times set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty.'
