Military History
To Battalion HQ Started as 2nd Lt in 28th Bn.
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Ascanius’ A36 for Egypt 29.6.1915 .
Roll Rank 2nd Lieut.
Roll Unit 4th Division. 28th Bn. ‘A’ Coy. AIF.
Graham disembarked in Egypt. He was appointed Lieut. of the 28th Bn. 27.8.1915 and fought at Gallipoli. Graham was seconded to the Imperial Camel Corps after the Gallipoli evacuation on 26.1.1916. He was then transferred to the Australian Camel Corps 30.1.1916. Graham joined the BEF and his secondment to the Camel Corps was terminated. He was transferred to the Pioneer Reinf. 25.10.1916 and proceeded overseas to France 17.12.1916. Graham marched in to the 4th Army Division Base Details at Etaples 7.12.1916. He was taken on strength with the 4th Pioneers 22.12.1916 and seconded for duty with the 7th ANZAC Light Railways 24.12.1916. Graham then transferred to 1st Operating Section of the ANZAC Light Rail 24.12.916. He was transferred back to duty with 4th Pioneer Bn. 12.2.1917. Graham was promoted to the rank of Captain and seconded as Division Salvage Officer 24.2.1917. He was KIA when standing near his dugout at Ypres together with Major McCrae and another Officer. They were hit by an enemy aerial bomb (near the old gasworks) and Graham died of shrapnel wounds to the neck (AWM: Red Cross Files, Thomas Donald Graham)
He was buried at Huts Military Cemetery (3 miles SW of Ypres) Plot 9, Row B Dickebusch. Grave details Plot 9. Row B. Grave 3. Today the cemetery is known as The Huts Cemetery Ypres, Flanders, Belgium.
