Embarked Fremantle per ‘Surada’ A 52 for Egypt 16.5.1916.

Military History
Gaze disembarked with the 10th Light Horse Regt in Egypt. He transferred to 3rd Light Horse Reserve Regiment 17.6.1916 and fought at the Battle of Romani 3-5 August 191. Gaze was transferred to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Section 15.11.191 and may have fought at El Arish. Gaze transferred to the 1st Signallers 20.6.1917. He was hospitalised sick 5.8.1917. A month later he was transferred to the 14th Australian General Hospital with diphtheria 8.9.1917. After a period of convalescence 9.10.1917, he continued to serve with 1st Signallers and rejoined his unit 3.10.1917. It is not recorded if he participated in the Battle of Beersheba in Ocober 1917. Gaze continued to serve with the EEF and is recorded as working as a motor despatch rider in 1919.(Western Mail 11.4.1919 p23) He was demobilized in 1919 and listed for return to Australia.

Notes: Gaze was engaged to 'Kitty' Fegan 1920 ( West Australian Newspaper Social Pages 13.2.1920 p6). Kitty was also known a Amy nee Moncrieffe (adopted daugter of J.M.Fegan). They married on July 21st 1920 (Western Mail 16.8.1920 p19) . Gaze moved to a farm at Kununopin and they had one child. Gaze then moved to Perth and brought a garage. In 1933, Amy divorced Gaze on the grounds of desertion (West Australian Newspaper 2.3.1933 p18). He lived in Stuart St. Perth. WA. in 193 .
His mother died in Claremont, WA. -widow of T.O. Gaze
Gaze’s uncle was F.O. Gaze (War Chest Commissioner in Egypt and in 1917 Flight Commander). His cousins included Irvine Owen Gaze, Lieutenant F.O. Gaze M.C., Owen Gaze A.F.C. ( Western Mail 11.4.1919 p23).
