Military History
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Benalla’ A24 for Egypt 1.11.1915.

Devereux disembarked in Egypt with the 16th Bn. 1.11.1915, however, did not fight at the Dardenelles. Following the evacuation from Gallipoli the 16th Bn was re organised with additional men from the 48th Bn. The 4th Brigade was combined with the 12th and 13th Brigade to form the 4th Division (AWM 16th Bn) He was transferred to 12th FAB 25.1.1916. Devereux was taken on Strength from the 16th Bn. at Tel-el-Kebir 7.3.1916 and posted to the 4th Division 112th Howitzer Bty. He was transferred to Alexandria and joined the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) 3.6.1916. He embarked with his Division at Alexandria for France. He disembarked at Marseilles 13.6.1916 and proceeded to the Nursery Sector at Armentieres. Devereux was transferred to the front on the Somme; in June, he was hospitalised 21.6.1916. Devereux was hospitalised with a debility 21.8.1916 and again in 23.9.1917. He rejoined his unit in France 20.10.1917. He was hospitalised with influenza 9.3.1918. Devereux marched out from France and disembarked Weymouth for return to Australia 8.2.1919. He marched in to the 2nd Training Bn. 15.2.1919 for return to Australia.

Discharged 16.7.1919.
