Embarked 23.12.1916 per HMAT ‘Berrima’ for England.

Roll Unit ‘D’ Company, 48th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
Barker disembarked with the 48th Battalion at Devonport and marched in to the 12th Training Battalion at Codford. He was admitted to the Group Hospital sick 2.5.1917. Barker proceeded overseas to France with his Unit 25.6.1917. He was taken on Strength with the 28th Battalion on the Somme 17.7.1917.
Barker was reported as missing in action at Passchendaele 12.10.1917. (Reported in the West Australian Newspaper 3.12.1017). He was taken POW (prisoner of war) by the Germans and interned at Soltan, Lazaratt Ban Z Prison, Germany. Barker was wounded in the right arm. He was repatriated to England 26.12.1918.
