Military History
Davis was sent to Maribyrnong, Victoria with the Field Artillery for further training.
Embarked Melbourne HMAT ‘Aeneus’ for Plymouth 2.10.1916.Artillery

Roll Unit Australian Field Artillery 118 Howitzer Battery.
Davis disembarked at Plymouth with his Regt. 19.11.1916. He marched in to Larkhill for a brief period of training. Davis proceeded overseas to France per ‘Princess Henrica’ from Folkstone 2.1.1917. He was transferred to the 3rd Division Artillery 13.1.1917 and the 12th Artillery Field Brigade 4.2.1917. During a period of re-organization his unit was absorbed into the 11th Field Artillery Bde. 1917. His Bde. fought through the harsh winter of 1916-17 on the Somme. Davis was hospitalized, sick with bronchitis 24.3.1917. He rejoined his unit 5.5.1917. Davis was KIA 25.9.1917 during the Battle of Menin Road in the third Battle of Ypres in Belgium. (Reported West Australian Newspaper 25.10.1917 )
He was buried Birr Cross Roads Cemetery, Zillebeke, Belgium1 ¾ miles east of Ypres. Plot 1, Row F, Grave 17.

Notes His Mother, Mrs M.E. Davis lost 3 sons. He was one of four brothers who served in WW1. His brothers were Walter Herbert Davis, Gilbert Davis, Frederick Charles Davis and brother -in-law Leslie Charles Longson. Walter, Reg and Frederick died in Europe.
