Davies disembarked in Egypt and marched in to the 4th Training Bn. The 16th Bn. was reorganized into the 48th Bn in Egypt. After several months of intensive training Davies entrained to Alexandria, joined the BEF and embarked per HT ‘Huntspill’ for France 7.6.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 14.6.1916 and joined the 48th Bn 17.7.1916. The 48th Bn. fought at Pozieres in August 1916 suffering 598 casualties. (AWM 48th Bn). Davies was wounded in action at Pozieres 7.8.1916 with a GSW to his hand. He was admitted to the 2nd AGH at Wimereux in France, then transferred by HS ‘Jan Breydel’ to England 9.8.1916. He rejoined the 48th Bn. in the Field 25.11.1916 and fought at Bullecourt. Davies was reported missing in action 11.4.1917. A Court of Enquiry determined in December 1917 that Davies had been KIA in the field in France 11.4.1917, shot in chest at Bullecourt (AWM Red Cross Files) His body was not recovered and he is now commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France
