Military History
Bailey received parental permission to enlist as he was under 21 years.
Embarked Fremantle per RMS 'Mongolia' for Egypt 22.11.1915.

Roll Unit 12th Reinforcement, 11th Battalion.
Bailey disembarked with the 11th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement at Suez Egypt. They joined their Battalion at Habieta. The unit entrained to Alexandria joined the British Expeditionary Force and embarked for 29.3.1916. They disembarked at Marseilles France, 5.4.1916. He fought on the Somme in the trenches with his Battalion and in May at Sailly. Bailey was transferred to the 1st General Hospital with Influenza 16.7.1916 and was then transferred to England per Hospital Ship ‘St. George’ 30.7.1916. He was admitted to Dudley St. Hospital Birmingham 1.8.1916. He marched in to Perham Downs for Convalescence and training. Bailey was admitted to 1st Australian Divisional Hospital Bulford 14.11.1916. He proceeded overseas following discharge from hospital, to France per SS ‘Victoria’ 4.2.1917. He rejoined his Battalion in the trenches on the Somme 11.2.1917. Bailey was hospitalised with enteritis and a debility 10.3.1917. He returned to England and listed for early return to Australia for a change - invalided with dilated heart.
